If you are unfamiliar with our worship services, we'd like to share our
liturgy with you.
We offer Holy Eucharist services at 8:30 AM and 11:00 AM on Sundays and
Holy Eucharist and Unction at 6:00 PM on
Wednesdays. Our choir is present at the 11:00 AM service. There is no
music at the 8:30 AM and the Wednesday services.
We use the liturgy set out in The
Book of Common Prayer according to the use of the Episcopal
church.
Holy Eucharist
We stand for the processional of the servers, choir and priest into the
sanctuary. We remain standing for the salutation.
We stand or kneel (your choice) for the collect of the day.
Then we sit for one or two readings from Bible, with a psalm recited
between the readings.
We stand for the Gospel of our Lord, and then sit again for the sermon.
After the sermon, we stand to declare our beliefs (the Nicene Creed)
and we stand or kneel for the prayers of the people:
an excerpt from Rite I Prayers of the
People:
Let us pray for the whole state of Christ's Church and the world.
Almighty and everliving God who in thy holy Word hast taught us to make
prayers and supplications, and to give thanks for all men: Receive
these our prayers which we offer unto thy devine Majesty, beseeching
thee to inspire continually the Universal Church with the spirit of
truth, unity, and concord; and grant that all those who do confess thy
holy Name may agree in the truth of thy holy Word, and live in unity
and godly love....
|
an excerpt from Rite II Prayers of the
People:
(Form I)
With all our heart and with all our mind, let us
pray to the Lord, saying "Lord, have mercy."
For the peace of the world, for the welfare of the holy Church of God,
and for the unity of all peoples, let us pray to the Lord.
Response: Lord, have mercy....
(Form III)
Father, we pray for your holy Catholic Church;
Response: That we all may be one.....
(Form VI)
In peace we pray to you, Lord God.
For all people in their daily life and work:
Response: For our families, friends,
and neighbors, and for those who are alone.....
|
The Prayers of the People, may conclude with a corporate confession:
Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against thee
in thought, word and deed,
by what we have done, and by what we have left undone.... |
Most merciful
God,
we confess that we have sinned against you
in thought, word and deed,
by what we have done, and by what we have left undone....
|
The congregation stands to greet the priest and other worshippers in
the name of the Lord.
Announcements are made and an offertory begins the Holy Communion.
Celebrant: Lift up your
hearts.
People: We lift them up unto the Lord.
Celebrant: Let us give thanks unto our Lord God.
People: It is meet and right so to do.
Celebrant: It is very meet right and our bounden duty that we should at
all times and inn all places give thanks unto thee, O Lord, holy
father, almighty and everlasting God....
|
Celebrant:
Lift up your hearts.
People: We lift them up to the Lord.
Celebrant: Let us give thanks unto our Lord God.
People: It is right so to give him thanks and praise.
Celebrant: It is right and a good and joyful thing, always and
everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven
and earth....
|
We stand or kneel as the service continues with the consecration of the
bread and wine and
with the Lord's Prayer, the Communion. All baptized Christians are welcome to “receive communion”.
After communion, we conclude with a prayer of thanksgiving, again,
standing or kneeling.
Almighty and everliving
God, we most heartily thank thee for that thou dost feed us, in these
holy mysteries, with the spiritual food....
|
Eternal God,
heavenly, Father, you have graciously accepted us as living members of
your Son our Savior Jesus Christ, and you have fed us....
|
Unction
On Wednesday, we offer Unction (anointing with oil in a healing
service) with the Eucharist.
The Eucharist service we use is from Rite II, with special prayers for
healing.
After the Prayers of the People, those who wish to be anointed are
invited to the alter rail.
We kneel and are anointed and prayed for individually prior to
exchanging the peace of the Lord.
